Lionsgate is tantalized by the idea of a video game based on the John Wick film franchise. During the studio’s latest earnings call, CEO Jon Feltheimer said that the studio has been ‘fielding proposals’ for a major video game title based on Keanu Reeve’s portrayal of the iconic John Wick character

Feltheimer definitely seems to be excited at the prospect of the film franchise gaining a video game adaptation. However, he is, at this point, hesitant to speak too openly on the subject. However, he has subsequently said: ‘I don’t want to get ahead of myself here, but we believe there is a big AAA game to be made out of ‘John Wick.’ We have been fielding proposals. We certainly are interested in moving that forward, but I don’t want to say anything more about that at this time.’

Scrubbing the internet revealed no further details about which developers or publishing studios may be in the running for the coveted job; however, we can assume that Lionsgate would be best off choosing a developer that has managed to successfully turn out action titles before. We can’t speculate any further than that at this point, but we will keep you updated as the story unfolds.

Could we soon get a John Wick AAA game?

What we can say is that if this project is done well, we could see similar success to those that the film franchise has seen. John Wick, the original 2014 film, grossed over $86 million while it was brought to life with a budget of only $20 million. The most recent film further compounded the first iteration’s success by grossing over $327 million, and we expect the highly-anticipated fourth entry, slated for release in March 2023, to compound the franchise’s success even further.

In other interesting news, this won’t be the first time that John Wick appears in a video game. John Wick is already the protagonist in Mike Bithell’s indie title John Wick Hex.

I hail from the awe-inspiring beauty of South Africa. Born and raised in Pretoria, I've always had a deep interest in local history, particularly conflicts, architecture, and our country's rich past of being a plaything for European aristocracy. 'Tis an attempt at humor. My interest in history has since translated into hours at a time researching everything from the many reasons the Titanic sank (really, it's a wonder she ever left Belfast) to why Minecraft is such a feat of human technological accomplishment. I am an avid video gamer (Sims 4 definitely counts as video gaming, I checked) and particularly enjoy playing the part of a relatively benign overlord in Minecraft. I enjoy the diverse experiences gaming offers the player. Within the space of a few hours, a player can go from having a career as an interior decorator in Sims, to training as an archer under Niruin in Skyrim. I believe video games have so much more to teach humanity about community, kindness, and loyalty, and I enjoy the opportunity to bring concepts of the like into literary pieces.
